14 If what has been built on the foundation survives, the builder will receive a reward . 1 Cor 3:14
Our Lenten journey will take us on an exploration of self-discovery. We will find out what we are living for by asking what we are
working for, and towards what are we moving with our daily activities. Paul said the foundation for everything we do is Jesus Christ.
That is our source of motivation. Jesus is our resource in giving of himself so that we might live. Don Piper was pronounced dead
for 90 minutes. During that time he experienced such wonderful joy that coming back to this life was depressing. He had painful injuries
from a head-on collision with a semi-trailer truck. Bones had to be grafted and stretched, numerous surgeries endured and years of
rehab which still leave lingering pain.
Don’s question was, why do I endure such pain in this life when there is such a beautiful life with God In heaven? Paul asked, “Which
is better, to die with the Lord or live here? For your sake I will continue with this life.” The answer is that this life is a preparation
for the life to come. We don’t just “get to heaven.” Scripture says we are “changed from glory to glory.” The choices we make today
will have consequences for eternity. We must live today in the light of our life with Christ that lies just ahead. Lord, I pray for
your guidance in choosing the heavenly way. Amen.
