Psalms 119:50 This is my comfort in my distress, that your promise gives me life.
Psalm 119 :49- 56 is called ‘zain’ for the seventh letter of the Hebrew alphabet. From ‘zain’ we get the word ‘zabad’ which means ‘gift.’ The gift of God (zabadi) is life. Godless men may try to undermine my secure relationship to God and question my faith and commitment, but God gives assurance, his laws which were from ancient days remind me of the covenant that God made with Moses and Israel. When we face the critics who question your character and your integrity God’s revealed will is found in his Word.
That Word is the gift of Jesus Christ who is “the way, the truth and the life. The Church is the bastion of God’s revealed truth. We look for her to uphold what is absolute and essential in life while the world quibbles over changing opinions. We look to Christ to lead us into “all the truth.”
When Sir Thomas More, the Chancellor of King Henry VIII, defied his Lord. The King; he risked his life in order to lean on the teaching of the Church on divorce and remarriage. He was ridiculed by the court and even his family had fallen from the intimidation of the King’s henchmen. But he stood his ground and felt vindicated on the day of his execution. He looked forward to the gift above all gifts, everlasting life.
